zSM Sewing With My Feet

Classes through December 2020 have been cancelled. We are looking at changing the format and criteria for classes going forward.

We are monitoring the COVID-19 situation on an on-going basis to determine if classes can return sooner. Please check back for further updates.

Join us as we explore the feet and attachments that can be used with your sewing machine
machine for optimum effects. This class is appropriate for all levels of sewist, from a beginner with a new machine, to a very experienced artist with a number of different machines under her/his belt! Over the course a year+, you will be constructing a binder with feet descriptions, and make samples of many of the things your machine can do utilizing different feet, threads, needles, and stitch combinations. We’ll be exploring threads, needles, stabilizers, fabric types,

and many other variables to help you optimize your projects. The class is somewhat structured, but there is room for collaboration, exchange of ideas and techniques, and lots of fun and camaraderie.

Because of the ongoing nature of this class, you can drop in or drop out at any time. Eventually, the class will cycle back through. Currently, we are on our second round.

Please put together a “Class Kit” which will be brought to class each month.

YOUR S.W.M.F. KIT SHOULD CONTAIN:

THREAD:
2 spools white, 50 weight
2 spools black, 50 weight
1 spool any color, 40 weight
1 spool any color, 30 weight
1 spool any color, 12 weight
1 spool any color, 70 weight
1 spool “invisible” thread. Look for a poly, NOT nylon, if possible
Small spool of wash-away thread in plastic bag
Empty and full bobbins, variety of colors, and white

NEEDLES:
Microtex or Topstitch #60/8, 70/10, 80/12, 90/14, 100/16 Twin Needles 1,6/80, 2,0/80, 3,0/90,
6,0/100, 8,0/100 Wing Needle 100/16

FEET:
Bring all you have, to every class. You’d be surprised at the overlap in function, and if you don’t
have the particular foot we’re talking about, chances are you have an alternate that may work
as well for a given technique.

FABRIC:
Several squares of different types of fabric, for your samples. 6”-12” square.

In addition to your kit, if this is your FIRST CLASS, bring a USB stick so that I can give you the
files for you to download and print out. You will put these pages in a binder which we will
discuss at your first class.

Please also bring a sewing machine in good working order, all of its feet and accessories,
cords, manuals, etc. as well as regular sewing supplies and favorite notions.
