Zoom Serger Fun: Serger Garments w/Candace: Rockford Ragland

This will be a Zoom virtual class. You will receive a Zoom link 24 hrs or more prior to the start of class.

You have a serger and perhaps a cover-stitch machine.  Now what?  Join Candace to learn tips and techniques for using your serger to make basic knit garments.
The Rockford Ragland is a great Raglan Sleeve Top to add to your wardrobe. With 4 body styles, various sleeve and band options, one pattern will take you from spring to summer to fall.

Download and purchase your pattern: https://www.lovenotions.com/product/rockford-raglan-for-ladies

Fabric Type and Yardage: Around 2 yards depending on length. You can make this Ragland with almost any type of fabric that has 40% stretch such as lightweight sweater Knits, Hacci, French Terry, or Double Brush Polyester work well for these patterns. If you want a lighter weight fabric you can use ITY, Cotton or Rayon Blends. Knits with drape, will give the most flattering silhouette.

Print your pattern: If printing from home: This is a very large file. Print ONLY the pages you need. On pg 3 of the Tutorial is a layout of what pages to print for the "View" you wish to make. Also, note there is a Full Bust Adjustment Front for each view. You can also print the "layers" you wish to see. this option lets you print only the size you need.
There are 6 pages of the Large Format for copy shop file. You can upload the file to www.pdfplotting.com to have it printed on large paper. (contact me with questions)

Class 1  will only be 1 hour and we will be a discussion of the pattern, printing, alterations, and basic details for the class.
Class 2: you will need to have your fabric cut out and ready to assemble.

Fabrics: I use fabrics from a local warehouse: https://sosewenglishfabrics.com

You will need the following supplies:

  • Serger with power supply and foot pedal and threading chart
  • 4 spools of serger thread to complement your fabric choice (threads do not have to be the same colors but should complement your fabric)
  • Serger Feet: Standard Foot or Clear foot or Open-Toe Foot or Teflon Foot (great to use on heavy knits)
  • Needles: ELx705 needles or Jersey/Ballpoint needles size 80/12 or 90/14
  • Optional: Cover Stitch Machine for topstitching/hemming
  • Sewing notions for cutting, marking, and pinning fabric (Clover Clips recommended instead of pins). Double-eye needle, tweezers, scissors, fabric glue.
  • Pattern weights helpful for cutting out fabric
  • SewKeys-E double-sided fusible tape (green package) ½ inch to fuse hems in place before serging
