SM Beginning Serger Garments w/Candace: Tops
Join Candace each month to learn tips and techniques for using your serger to make basic knit garments. We will select a different garment each month and utilize time-saving techniques to make serging easy and fun.
This class is designed for the beginning serger but everyone is welcome to join in this fun social serging class.
September is all about tops. Choose your favorite top from one of these Pattern Emporium patterns:
1) Starstruck Side Tie Top. This top is fun to make and flattering on all body types. With 7 sleeve options, this is the perfect top for summer and beyond.

2) Be You Tee (just released) The perfect year-round top with several necklines, adding a cowl or funnel options is perfect for fall. 5 sleeve options and 3 different hemlines make this the perfect top to make many times.

Fabric suggestions include Most all knits with 4-way stretch. Viscose or Rayon Poly blend, Modal, Bamboo, Double Brushed Poly, French terry, Slub Knit, Hacci, Waffle Knit, Sweater Knit, Stretch Velvel, Stretch Lace, Scuba, Liverpool, Poly Jersey, and Blends of the above. (almost any 4-way stretch fabric will work)
**Please only select patterns from this list. You will have the confidence to sew other patterns at home. **

- Make sure your printer is set for “actual size” before you hit print.
Bring the following supplies to class:

Pattern printed and taped together (there will not be time to do this in class)

Serger with power supply and foot pedal and threading chart

4 spools of serger thread to complement your fabric choice (threads do not have to be the same colors but should complement your fabric)

Serger Feet: Standard Foot or Clear foot or Open-Toe Foot or Teflon Foot

Needles: ELx705 needles or Jersey/Ballpoint or Stretch needles size 80/12 or 90/14 (depending on your fabric)

Cover Stitch Machine for hem and sleeves with 2 spools of serger thread that complement the fabric.

Sewing notions for cutting, marking, and pinning fabric (Clover Clips recommended instead of pins). Double-eye needle, tweezers, scissors, fabric glue.

Pattern weights helpful for cutting out fabric

SewKeys-E double-sided fusible tape (green package) ½ inch or ¼ inch to fuse hems in place before cover-stitching.
