(NOC) SEWING Machine Basics with Michelle - San Marcos



This is an In-Person class. Please arrive 10min early to set up your machine.

Join our instructor and learn basic machine operations for your new sewing machine. We will discuss the following topics in this class:

  • Needles and threads
  • Winding a bobbin, threading your machine, and basic machine maintenance.
  • Basic sewing functions and operation buttons of your machine
  • Accessing the setting functions of your machine (not all machines have this function)
  • Identifying the feet that come with your machine
  • Stitch with, length and tension adjustments
  • Using the buttonhole and button foot
  • Zipper foot
  • Settings functions


Supplies you need for class:

  • Your Machine with ALL feet and accessories, power supply and foot pedal.
  • INSTRUCTION Manual – if it did not come with your machine, please go to the machine webpage, find your model, download and print your manual.
  • Empty bobbin(s)
  • Sewing Thread – Please bring or buy new thread.  Thread older than five years or have been in the sun degrade and break.
  • Notebook and pen for taking notes.

SMP will have rulers, cutting mats, irons and ironing stations available to you, if necessary.

Buttons, fabric, zippers will be provided in the class.

Materials Included: COVID-19 PRECAUTIONS: Please be aware that SMP wants to keep our staff and students healthy. During this time, SMP will not be supplying classrooms with cutting mats, rulers, irons, ironing boards or rotary cutters. Please bring your own. All machines, tables and chairs will be sanitized BEFORE each class. We ask that you sanitize your hands often, practice social distancing (when possible) and wear a mask. Thank you!
Requirements: CLASS REGISTRATION PROCEDURES: You can register for classes in the store, on our website or call us 760-739-8222. Most classes have a minimum number of students to run. If we do not meet the minimum number of students, we will notify you that the class is canceled or rescheduled. If your class is not held for any reason, you may transfer your class fee paid to another class or receive a refund. You may cancel for a full refund up to three (3) days prior to the class.
